My old mouse died and needed one to replace it. Saw this one, as my previous one was also red. Initially thought there was something wrong as I didn’t see the Infared light on bottom one (mine was red). After setting it up to try the mouse, it worked perfectly and fit my had beautifully. I guess you should follow the directions and try mouse before thinking it is not working as all mouses are built and work differently. Hope that the instructions state that the battery will last a very long time, so will see but as with other items that use batteries, they do last a long time before needing to be replaced.
